I Just Had To Mention This Right Away...
...even though my reviews won't be up until tomorrow.
*Ahem*
Detective Comics #821 might be the best single-issue Batman comic of the last 10 years.
Discuss.
(Seriously. I feel like Paul Dini just gave me a big wet sloppy kiss --- don't tell the wife! :) )

Let's see - 10 years would be 1996, so after the Grant/Breyfogle days, so I may have to agree with you. Moench and Jones were still doing Batman in 1996, though, and they wrote a few good single issue stories. That's pretty sad, though, when it's been that long since someone could write a good 22-page Batman story.
Chris, yeah, that was pretty good. A nice little mystery, a villain taking the Black Mask's old schtick of masquerade and social climbing, and even some subtle character development of Bruce Wayne! The receipt bit was FANTASTIC detective work.
Though Greg, some GREAT Batman stories were written in the past 10 years. I LOVED the end of No Man's Land, Broken City was 100 Bullets fun, and the Rucka years on Detective were top notch. That they CHOSE not to write single issue stories doesn't mean they couldn't. (There's one where a family is trapped in a sinking car, and Batman has to discover that the crime happened at all if he's going to save them).
This issue's just better.
Loved Barr/Davis, Grant/Breyfogle, after that it was just kind of "blah". Dave Johnson arcs were ok, actually. But I'll give this new team a try.
