Tell me why....

that the comic powers-that-be ignore the other six continents on the Earth?
Ignore that 78% or so of the Earth is water?

I'm sure this has been discussed over and over in the blogosphere....but I wanna know.

Reading the discussions and theories around Civil War, that the heroes are going to Canada. Daredevil is following up a storyline in France.
Doom....yummy.
Excalibur..well....do they reall count, since it sucks?
Black Panther....see Excalibur.
Maybe that's another reason I enjoyed Justice League International so much.

Anywho, does all the crime only happen in NYC? Hasn't anyone heard of the treasures at the Hermitage? The art museums in Germany, Italy, Egypt? Singapore is a financial center of the world. Doesn't China have all kinds of money now?

Is it because the majority of readers are in the US? Is it because 3/4 of the population of the US will probably say the capital of Canada is Toronto? (Yes, its Ottawa) Or that France is south of Russia?

C'mon Marvel, DC...the world doesn't revolve around NYC. I'm just tired of seeing NYC get pummelled....over and over and over, by the same old peeps.

Oh well, sorry, just ranting some. I love me some geography, just wondering why it all don't go global. Everything else is.

Randy, currently located in India, out.

Oh, hi Chris.

PS: Joe Q. Inhumans. One Word. Please don't forget. And, I'm rooting for Hulk.

The short answer is that writers write what they know, and most of the writers lived in New York. So it's not only hard to get a story that takes place outside of America, it's hard to get one off of the West Coast.

That said... 52's been pretty (and intentionally) international, though most of the characters are still American. Checkmate, of course, has an international flavor, and Blue Beetle takes place on the Mexican border.

I think you've hit the reason why I'm looking at Alpha, sorry, Omega Force with a huge lump of salt. Once again the focus of a Canadian Superhero team is whatever is happening in New York or the US.

Yeah. That's me to a T, right there.

Although it does have Beta Ray Bill, so you can say I'm conflicted on what to think on this upcoming book.

Also, I watched Heroes last night. And while I did like it, and my wife to be did as well, we were both a bit disappointed that everyone ended up in New York. The international aspect should have been used much more and much longer as it is really unique.

That's why Justice League International and Justice League Europe were so much fun. Wow! Things happened in Paris! Who knew these other countries even existed?

it's because every place other then new york has a competent police force and a jailing system that works.
so villains stay away from those places and super-heroes just aren't needed.

I think it's because they often can't be bothered to research other locales, so youu get abominations like the new Union Jack series. It's less likely you'll get everything wrong if it's based down the sreet from your office.

Half of the countries in the world would have a much speedier and final punishment for the evildoers. Habeus Corpus makes it so much easier for a villain to be an optimist.
